Important Changes on FAFSA (Instead of Mother/Father it will say Parent 1/Parent 2)

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (#FAFSA) beginning 2014-2015 will provide a new option for dependent applicants to describe their parents’ marital status as “unmarried and both parents living together.”  Additionally, where appropriate, the new FAFSA will use terms like “Parent 1” and “Parent 2” instead of gender-specific terms such as “mother” and “father.”  Read more here.

#ADVICE from a #Tuskegee Alum #HBCU

Today I had the chance to sit down and talk with Deputy Director Ronald E. Blakely from @usedgov, #Tuskegee University alum, #Army #Veteran and currently with the Department of Education working on #HBCU initiatives.

Here are my takeaway’s:

  1. ‘Some people Win but Loose’
  2. ‘You’ve got to know when to go around the problem’
  3. ‘Take a little bit from the people you admire but be YOU’, and
  4. ‘It’s okay to be different’
