Lisa Nichols shared her story of being a single mom with $11 dollars in the bank, looking at her son, unable to buy diapers, saying, “Mommy will never be this poor again.” She continued, saying that while this may be where some are now, that is not our destiny, but just a moment. “I believe in a holistic approach, and being unapologetically successful which means I have nothing to hide, nothing to prove and nothing to defend,” Lisa Nichols said.

4. Nicole Roberts Jones taught one of the breakout sessions. Jones is a speaker, author, and empowerment coach. “When the world gets me in all my brilliance, they get . . . ,” Jones said. Jones encouraged those in her session to move from fear and add what the world gets to the end of that sentence. She encouraged those wanting to be successful to do it afraid, and not wait for the fear to leave. She said find your perception, be unapologetic about your greatness, let go of process and take the limits off. “Your gift isn’t even for you,” Jones said.

Students Feel Unprepared for Job Market

Only one in five college students say they feel "very prepared" to join the workforce, according to the results of McGraw-Hill Education's annual student workforce readiness survey. While 45 percent of the roughly 1,000 respondents said they feel "somewhat prepared" to begin a career after college, slightly more than half said they did not learn how to write a résumé. And 56 percent did learn how to conduct themselves in a job interview. The survey found that less than one-third of students said career services on campus were effective. Only 14 percent reported using career services frequently, with nearly a quarter saying they never used career services.

The College Degrees And Skills Employers Most Want In 2015

The hiring picture keeps getting better for college graduates. According to a new survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers are planning to hire 9.6% more graduates for their U.S. operations than they did from the class of 2014. That’s a one percent hike from the 8.6% gain a year ago and a significant jump from 2013, when employers said they would boost hiring by just 2.1% over the previous year.
